Search Engine Optimisation – Search Indicators
Posted by harpreet.seehra on December 4th, 2009
Search Engines (SE’s) are determined in being able to distinguish indicators, which they then can employ to advance the value of the results that are made available to users.
Search engines such as Google, want to maintain or grow its market share and this can only be done if users are kept happy by offering them quality, relevant results.
Search engines are always looking to decrease the effect that spammers have. So, they look for indicators that can enhance the results users find in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) and create difficulties for spammers.
Here are a few indicators that could possibly be implemented;
Web References
They are businesses that are discussed on the website that are not applied as links. They could count as votes just as links do.
Connected to this, even when the nofollow tag has been added to a link, Google may still choose to make a connection with those links anyway
Page Load Time
The quicker the page loads, the better experience the user has.
(There are suggestions that Google may apply this indicator over the next 12 months)
Social Media
Clicks
Click data is already used as an indicator within Google news.
They generally know the number of clicks a site at position1, 2, 3… usually receives. So, if a website receives more clicks than they expect, then that could be an indicator that the website should appear higher up.
SE’s may or may not use these indicators in the future. The best thing to do is create a quality user friendly site which provides your target audience with all the info they need.
