Search Engine News > Google searches in your social circle
Posted by david.morris on May 7th, 2010
Towards the end of last year, Google launched ‘Social Search’ so that you can easily find content from people within your social circle when you perform a search.
If you have a Google account, you can link your social network accounts to it, for example Twitter and FriendsFeed. When you perform a Google search, an extra set of search results are included at the bottom of the main results which are taken from all the people that are included in your social circle. The results will include Twitter feeds, blogs and status updates.
The idea behind this new feature is to make Google searches more personal and in line with the other social networks across the internet. If for example you are looking for opinions on a latest video game, your social search results could include your friends Twitter update about how great it is.
This new method of presenting search results could have implications to the way social networks are used for search engine optimisation and we will be keeping an eye on how this develops.
