Product Comparison
Posted by admin on February 20th, 2009
With a growing number of e-commerce websites available, giving users a wider choice of products, it’s a great idea to build eCommerce websites which allow shoppers to compare products. Especially if you sell technical products, e.g. they have different specifications (Computers, phones, cars, electronics, anything really that has a list of features). The option to compare different products aids the customer in finding what they want and then allows them to make informed choices. It also gives any online shop the ability to show off the superiority of its product range. That’s why many leading ecommerce websites offer a product compare feature.
Magento ecommerce, the new Studio 2 Online backend ecommerce system gives a more integrated approach to product comparison. This feature allows shoppers browsing an ecommerce online shop to add any item to a comparison basket, in a similar way to a shopping basket, which is always visible to the customer. This is much better than just offering a comparison whilst on the product page. The comparison basket also allows items to be removed from this list at anytime, not just on the product comparison page. You can see an example of this by visiting http://ecommercedemo.studio2online.co.uk
The product comparison page offers customers a clear and simple list of the features of the items which they have chosen. It also redirects customers to the main webpage without forcing their browser to create new pages, which can be confusing.
After comparing the products the customer can choose the product he/she wants. This option is always available to buy at both the top and the bottom of the comparison page rather than looking for an ‘Add To Cart’ option buried somewhere at the bottom of the page or completely having to re-search for the product.
Having a price comparison on an ecommerce page is not the newest of ideas but usually in my experience these features are poorly implemented whist our system offers them in a user friendly way which actually is an advantage to any website.
You may be thinking, this will add a lot of work for us when updating products. This isn’t the case, you simply add or amend the products, ensure they have the relevant data and the system does all the hard work. You just sit back and let Studio 2 Online make you sales while you sleep!
