APACS, the UK payments association, have released figures showing that there are now nearly 30 million people shopping online - an increase of over 100% since 2002.

Christmas is traditionally a busy time for the high street shops but this year we Britons are expected to spend more than £5 billion at online stores during December! An increase in growth of 55% on the same period last year.

Ipoints.co.uk research suggests that 92% of people, who responded to their poll, will be purchasing some of their presents online with almost a third of these saying they will be using the internet to buy most of their Christmas shopping.

The UK’s predicted biggest online shopping day ever, Monday December 10, culminated in consumers spending a record breaking £767,500 in a single minute! Wow!

All the indications suggest that the growth in ecommerce will continue – unfortunately, many online retailers still do not have an ecommerce facility on their websites to enable easy online ordering and only accept telephone and mail orders.
