Happy Wednesday
Oooh, the week just keeps getting better.
On Sunday I read that pyjamas are about to have a fashion moment. Bear with me.
On Monday, Dani ushered in the Year Of The Ox. Meaning that dependable, hardworking people who are always looking to solve a problem (me, me and me) are about to have their moment too. And, rising above comparisons with a beast of burden, I’m anticipating bountiful rewards in 2009.
Yesterday, Dani told us why blogs are good for business. So I know that I’m doing my bit. Well, you’re reading this aren’t you?
And today, I checked the weather forecast for the weekend; as you do on Wednesday. It’s like booking your holiday in January. Not so early that you haven’t got over the expense of the last one, but early enough to give you something to look forward to.
Anyway, it’s set to be cold here in Leicester. And, while everyone else moans, the worse the weather gets, the happier I am. Because, the great thing about bad weather is the excuse to spend another weekend hunkered down and cosied-up in my pjs. See, you knew I’d get to the point of those pyjamas eventually.
And now that Jessica Alba has been seen on the red carpet in, albeit less that flattering, glammed-up D&G jammies, there’s no occasion too smart for sleepwear. So, I’m feeling smugly fashion forward because, long before the fashion pack picked-up on pyjamas for premieres, there were few activities I didn’t believe would be improved wearing the sartorial equivalent of comfort food.
The world has been catching up with current affairs in its pyjamas since the dawn of … well, current affairs, or pyjamas. But these days, it’s not just newspapers, radio and tv that are keeping life in pjs informed and opinionated, but RSS feeds from news websites. In fact, RSS feeds from all sorts of websites – doesn’t yours have one?
More traditionally, the Sunday papers are currently full of the cheapest / coolest / hottest / greenest (add our own “est” / *delete as applicable) holiday destinations for 2009 (see, it’s that time). And, from the comfort of my own jimjams, I’m following the links to happy holiday websites because, despite the credit crunch, research shows that holidays are one area where few of us are prepared to cut back completely. And this is proof of Dani’s advice that advertising your website offline will drive traffic (and potential business) online.
Then there’s the supermarket. Shamefully, I have put in an appearance in my pjs but, these days, doesn’t everyone order their groceries online?
I might have mentioned before that Ocado is one of my favourite ecommerce websites because it makes life really, really easy. It remembers the things I’ve forgotten. It knows what I like and shows me offers for similar products, without bothering me with multi-packs of food for the dog I don’t have. I can even persuade partner to do the weekly shop, because repeating any of my previous orders takes less time than boiling the kettle.
Provisions taken care of, a few hours work can be done very efficiently in my pyjamas. Of course, I’d never dream of turning up for a client meeting without making an effort, but I might just write your website more comfortably attired. Then I can catch up with friends on social networks which, especially at this time of year, can feel like a great big virtual pyjama party.
And, if I fancy a civilised night at the movies, I can download blockbusters I’ve missed from lovefilm and put my feet up during the main feature. Or, as soon as ecommerce web site asos.com catches up, I can channel Jessica Alba and make an appearance at Cinema De Lux, High Cross, looking like a refugee from an amdram Noel Coward production.
And then back to bed. Happiness can be as simple as a favourite pair of pyjamas.
Keep smiling
