Effective SEO techniques to optimise images on your Website!

Although it’s true that text content is king when it comes to SEO, you shouldn’t ignore the importance of optimising your images to enhance your SEO even further.
Image optimisation is an essential part of your website search engine optimisation, especially when your ecommerce website includes lots of product images. Some basic image elements that can be used for SEO purposes for your keyphrases are entities like image names, folder names, alt tags and linking anchor texts for images.
To utilize the folders in which your website images are stored effectively for SEO you could include your keyword here instead of just calling it ‘images’. This way when you provide the path to the image location, you have created the opportunity to include your keyword in the path name.
Similarly, saving your image by the keyword name is creating another use of the keyphrase in the webpage source code, further increasing the keyword density. This also helps in the image optimization for google image searches.
The other key element that is often not used to its fullest potential is the the alt image tag. This is where you apply a descriptive text of an image using your keyword, provided off course it refers to it! No point including an alt tag like ‘cricket bats’ to a cricket trophy image. This is nothing but spamming, so stay away from such bad SEO techniques! Instead use the correct alt tag to effectively provide a simple, keyword focused description of the image (up goes your keyword density again!)
Finally, to further improve your search engine optimisation, if you’re using your image to create a hyperlink don’t forget the linking anchor text. Here is another opportunity for you to include that ever important keyword or phrase whilst giving a meaningful title to your image.
