A few words on Site Maps
Posted by harpreet.seehra on May 1st, 2009
User sitemaps are great for creating links to key pages within your site.
- Ensure the text of links that you create within the site map include the keywords of the page you’re linking to with.
- Organise the links – group them by topic/area so the user can see related pages
- Do not include more than 100 links in your sitemap – Google prefers less than 100 links per page
- Ensure your sitemap remains accurate – if you delete any pages, remove them from the sitemap
- It doesn’t have to be labelled sitemap – it can be called anything
- It has been suggested that you should place a no follow tag on all links to the sitemap, except the link from the homepage. The link from homepage could be seen as driving authority to your sitemap and then out from there to pages within the site. This can help the ranking for those internal pages.
