A few words on Reciprocal linking / Link exchange

Posted by admin on April 9th, 2009

Search engines generally prefer one way linking

  • A link to your website is seen as a vote of confidence for your website
  • In recent years this has been abused -some reciprocal linking partnerships were created specifically to con search engines and search engines have recognized this
  • Reciprocal linking dilutes your “link juice”, e.g. if you have a link from a site of  page rank 1 into your site, and then you create a link from your page rank 1 site back to that site, link juice = 0
  • If you obtain a link from a site with higher page rank than your own, it can be beneficial for your site
  • Bearing this in mind, you can link to other related sites if you feel it will benefit the user of your website and add to their experience

So when acquiring your website design in the West Midlands, web design in Leicester, web design in Birmingham or anywhere in the UK, bear these linking points in mind!

I do not agree. Recip links are worth getting as long as they come from only industry related sites that only link to industry related sites. They will never add as much weight as a one way link but they will help overall.

With that said, fancy a link exhange?
