Common Mistakes in Web Design Continued

Posted by admin on March 27th, 2009

There are things you should be aware of when having your website designed – whether you’re sourcing web design in Birmingham or website design elsewhere in the Midlands – choosing a web designer who truly understand the medium and how best to communicate with the widest audience is of paramount importance.

Not thinking about colour perception and visual impairment is a common mistake

Making the right colour choices when designing a website ensures users with various types of vision can effectively view the website. The more users that can view your website properly = more enquiries, orders, sales etc.

Web users with impaired vision and other colour deficiencies find that some colour arrangements are ineffective. Here are a few guidelines;

1.     Intensify the contrast between background and text colours.

2.     Steer clear of using colours with similar lightness together, even if they have dissimilar hue/saturation.

3.     Use tools such as http://www.colorjack.com/sphere/ to help you find the right colours.

4.     Don’t use fancy patterns behind text

5.     Limit your pallet to a few different colours to grab the users eye.

6.     Understand the importance of white space. Often website clients want to fill every corner of their website with content, but that makes finding the content incredibly hard as you bombard the user.
