User Powered e-Commerce

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2009

Designing for the web is a unique affair. Not only does the website have to look good and entice a user to learn more about a clients services or products, it also has to ‘flow’ well. That is, a user has to be able to navigate a website with ease – they have to be [...]

UNIX year 1234567890

Posted by dani cass on February 16th, 2009

On Friday night when I went to Google, I was distracted by a strange code at the top of the page where the pretty picture is usually placed. The code read: $ date +%s 1234567890 Curious I thought. Then I noticed it was clickable, so, being the kind of person that presses random buttons to find out what they [...]

Leicester Web Design agency Studio 2 Online embraces Social Networking!

Posted by dani cass on February 13th, 2009

So, the first social networking site I’ve seen mentioned a lot this week is Twitter. Twitter is a site that allows you to microblog (tell people what you are doing in 140 characters or less). Twitter seems to be attracting a whole variety of users including the media to post the news stories, and celebrities such as Stephen Fry, who recently kept fans updated on a whole hour of being stuck in a lift!

Twitter allows people to share their life experiences in real time. Twitter is also being used by more and more people as a way of raising money for charities. A writer called Paul Smith, will be spending the whole of March ‘twitchhiking’ to raise money for charity; Water. The aim is to see how far he can get using transport and accomodation offered through Twitter, and he has received offers from as far away as New Zealand! He is hoping to raise at least £3,000 for the charity which provides clean drinking water in developing countries. You can follow the Twitchhikers progress at http://twitter.com/twitchhiker

Happy Wednesday

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2009

Back to thoughts of recession. Boy are those bankers getting a grilling. In between enjoying hearing the masters of the universe being asked to justify the decisions and conduct that lead to the credit crunch, being forced to apologise and now pressurised to forego their bonuses, I have been reading India Knight’s The Thrift Book. [...]

Does The East Midlands Exist?

Posted by admin on February 9th, 2009

Hope Dani kept you happy last Wednesday with her talk of super SMEs.  I was otherwise occupied, though no less amused. Last week, I attended the inaugural lecture of Al Rainnie, Professor and Director of Research at the Centre for Labour Market Studies at the University of Leicester.  Posing the question “Does the East Midlands [...]

The rise of the Super SME’s!

Posted by dani cass on February 4th, 2009

Since its Wednesday (and even though I vowed not to mention it), I’m sure everyone will have been effected in some way by the snow this week. Obviously being British, bad weather is a foreign concept to us, so we were totally unprepared and, as devastated as many people were, they just couldn’t make it [...]

Blogging in a winter wonderland!

Posted by dani cass on February 2nd, 2009

I’m sure by now everyone is as fed up of the snow as I am (and dreading the journey home!), and so, despite the numerous ‘blog about the snow’ requests from my colleagues, this will be a snow free zone!. Instead, I’ve decided to blog about the much happier webby type things that have caught my [...]
